Cheese Tasting at Quince in Northern Liberties
Posted by Marisa McClellan
For a brief period of time in her late teens, my younger sister became a vegan. The thing that brought her back to the lacto-ovo fold? Cheese. After approximately six months and far too many servings of soy faux-cheese that didn’t do much of anything but sit wanly on the plate and palate, she decided that life just wasn’t worth living without real, made-from-dairy cheese.
Local food writer, blogger and college professor Tenaya Darlington also believes that without cheese, there’s just not much point in going on. She records memorable bites at her blog Madame Fromage, and since last November, has been hosting cheese tastings events in conjunction with Quince, a gourmet shop on Girard Avenue.
Saturday, March 13th, Tenaya and Quince co-owner Nicole Marcote will be hosting a cheese tasting from 4 – 6 p.m. This tasting will focus on finding the path from beer to cheese. Philadelphia Brewing Company brewer Dean Browne will be pouring a selection of their most cheese-friendly beers, while Tenaya waxes poetic about her beloved fromage. You’ll leave with a full belly and a far clearer sense of how to pair even the most stinky cheese with a hoppy brew.
The cost of the tasting is $12 and they ask that you reserve your spot in advance (Quince is tiny). To sign up, call Nicole at 215.232.3425 or email quince@quincefinefoods.com.
Definitely want to go!
